Dear all MLTs,
Asalaamu Alaikum,
Please allow me to introduce myself. In case you hadn’t received the latest mailing, my name is Nancy Shihadeh and I am pleased to say that I will be coordinating all of the MLT programs from now onward! Please feel free contact me with any concerns or questions that you may have and I will try my best to address them.
Unfortunately, due to the change of hands, the MLT Op-Ed Training has to be rescheduled once again. I hope you are all available on Friday, August 13, at the Interchurch Center, Robing Room. This will be an all day training session from 10am – 5pm. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in participating. Spots are available on a first come first serve basis, and we can accommodate no more than 22 people in this training session.
Further details include:
Some of you have asked whether or not we can offer the training to others in your network/organization. We would be very pleased to extend the training to others who may benefit from it. For non-MLTs, we would charge a fee of $175 to cover costs. Full Day Seminar (7 hours) + one year of access to OpEd Project National Network of Mentor-Editors. The full day seminar is built around a series of exercises and scenarios designed to make participants think more carefully and more expansively about what they know and why it matters. It addresses concepts of thought leadership and structure of effective short-form argument, including: how to establish credibility; how to build consensus and change minds; the difference between being “right” and being effective; and how to triangulate, to think more expansively about our areas of expertise. We explore how to present ideas quickly and powerfully under pressure; the components of powerful, evidence-based argument; and strategies for making a greater impact, including how to escape a pigeonhole, how to preach beyond the choir, and the value of seeing your argument as part of a bigger picture—and yourself as part of a larger public conversation. We review techniques and tools of persuasion that appear in some of history’s most powerful arguments (speeches, essays and op-eds that have changed the world), and we discuss strategies for pitching ideas (anywhere). Participants leave with an op-ed draft, and will have ongoing access to OpEd Project resources, events and mentors.
I look forward to hearing from you soon! Kind Regards, Nancy Nancy Shihadeh Executive Coordinator American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA) 475 Riverside Drive Suite 248 New York, NY 10115 Phone: (212) 870-2552 Fax: (212) 870-2540 nancy@asmasociety.org www.asmasociety.org |
