Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow
Chapter Launch in India

The Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow (MLT) India chapter was officially launched in Hyderabad, India on September 24, 2009.

Amidst Eid ul-Fitr celebrations, MLTs in India launched the first MLT chapter. Spearheaded by MLT Anjum Babukhan, the event brought together over 400 members of different faith communities, including Sunni and Shi’a Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs.

Mr. Salman Khurshid, Union Minister of Corporate Affairs and Minorities, inaugurated the India MLT chapter. Addressing the group, Mr. Khurshid said that he appreciated the initiative taken by Ms. Babukhan, congratulated the new chapter members, and asserted that Islam is an answer to extremism as it stands for peace and humanity. He also expressed hope that the Indian MLTs would take up the role of spokespersons and activists for peace and tolerance, both in India and around the globe.

The event held exhibitions on Muslim scientists, calligraphy, and Islamic relics by the Salarjung Museum of Hyderabad and featured displays from Arunachal Pradesh Tourism on Muslims contributions to culture, arts, and the sciences.

The launch of the India chapter is part of a broader strategy to build an MLT presence in diverse countries throughout the world, a strategy outlined during the global MLT conference in Doha, Qatar earlier this year. Plans to launch MLT chapters in Pakistan and Gulf countries are now underway.
