Dear Friends, Yesterday Mayor Bloomberg, in the midst of an array of religious leaders, gave an impassioned speech in defense of the community center in Lower Manhattan. Standing in front of the Statue of Liberty, Mayor Bloomberg along with Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders spoke in the spirit of upholding the U.S constitution and our civil liberties. Bloomberg concluded in what is being called one of the finest political speeches, by letting Muslims know that they are welcome in New York City. "Muslims are as much a part of our City and our country as the people of any faith," he said, "and they are as welcome to worship in Lower Manhattan as any other group." For me the speech exemplified the essence of American values and the foundation that this country was built on. He has stood strongly against those who have been in opposition to our civil liberties and all Americans should applaud his efforts.
