Dear ASMA Family,
Asalam Alkum,
We hope this email finds you well and in good health. As many of you may be aware, ASMA and the Cordoba Initiative have been under intense heat recently as news of plans to build a community center, now dubbed "ground zero mosque", has sparked a series of attacks from various hate groups.
ASMA and Daisy have been all over the news lately, especially after the now infamous Sarah Palin’s tweet. We’ve attached all the recent media links below to help keep you in the know.
We encourage you to get out there and use your voices in support of our cause. See example below for some ideas. Below is our general press release for your use as well. Thank you and we appreciate your continued support !
All the Best,
ASMA Society
ASMA/Cordoba Press Release
We agree with Ms. Palin and others that it is time to heal from the wounds of the tragic events of 9/11. We peace- loving Muslims have a responsibility to lead the effort of rebuilding Lower Manhattan. We envision a community center for multi-faith collaboration that is focused on promoting integration, tolerance of difference and community cohesion.
At a time when our nation is suffering economically the center will also create 150 jobs and much needed economic revitalization. Because New Yorkers see this center as an asset to their neighborhood, we have received overwhelming support from, Mayor Bloomberg, Borough President Scott Stringer, State Senator Daniel Squadron, members of Community Board 1 as well as 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrow.”
We welcome the opportunity to discuss with Ms. Palin and others how Muslim Americans have an added responsibility to create a counter-momentum against extremism by building institutions like this center that will amplify the voices of the mainstream peace-loving Muslims.
