ASMA's Statement on the Death of Osama Bin Laden

"We are grateful to President Obama and all others who were instrumental in the demise of a global terrorist who created unbelievable tragedy here in the United States and around the world. Today, we speak not as Muslims, and not even as Americans. We speak as human beings who are committed to democracy, and the rule of law."

ASMA Supporter Responds to ASMA's Statement

"Thanks for the official statement you released to the New York Post - I just want to say thanks, it was greatly appreciated. More Americans need to know that regular Muslims are law-abiding people, and more of these announcements, I think, will further the gentle Muslim cause and the Islam that most Muslims follow. Fantastic to read the statement, I really appreciate it. I hope that the rest of American people really take these statements to heart and know that you are not our enemy, because you're not. Muslims are very friendly and religious people and deserve plenty of respect. I wish the best for peace for everyone, peace between Muslims, Jewish, and Christians: this is the country where we can do it. I wish you guys all the best, thank you, and my very best."

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf - 100 Most Influential People in World.
Thursday, April 21, 2011

"Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, 63, has moderate, colloquial eloquence, still relatively rare among American Muslim religious leaders. That didn't stop the attacks on him and his wife Daisy Khan when they teamed with a developer to propose a community center near Ground Zero. They still hope to realize that vision, knowing it won't come without further attacks. At a Manhattan church in 2004, a woman asked Rauf to explain hateful Muslim rhetoric. He gently proposed a deal: 'You take the best of our tradition as a start, and I'll take the best of Christianity ... From there we can build.'"
